Hyun-Kook Cho, Alparslan Akca and Woo-Kyun Lee

ABSTACT : To improve the accuracy of forest type classification in mountainous area topographic normalization's methods were applied to Landsat TM imagery. The results of applied methods- Statistic-empirical correction, Minnaert correction, C-correction, and 2-stage Correction- were evaluated visually and statistically. Forest type classification by maximum likelihood classifier were performed to confirm the improvement on classification with
topographically corrected data. Lastly, advantages and disadvantages of the applied methods were discussed.

Key words : Topographic Effect, Landsat TM, Forest Type Classification
