The Optimum Competition Index and .the Development of Single Tree Growth Model for Pinus densiflora Stands in Anmvun- lsland
Jeong-Ho Seo, Yeong-Mo Son, Kyeong-Hak Lee and Woo-Kyun Lee ABSTRACT : In this study, the relationship between growth factors , competition indices and annual radial growth were analyzed and then a single tree dbh growth model were prepared for Pinus densiflora stands on Anmyun Island, in Korea. To prepare a single tree dbh growth model, a correlation analysis between different competition indices and annual radial growth was fulfiled first. After the analysis, it is proved that Hegyi's competition index was suitable to estimate the competition status of individual tree. Then an annual radial growth model was prepared. Annual radial growth was employed as a dependent parameter in this model. Age and dominant tree height. which estimates site
Quality. dbh and Hegyi's competition index of individual trees were employed as independent parameters. Several non-linear regression eQuations composed of above parameters were analyzed and following annual radial growth model for individual trees was prepared The prepared model coincided with a general growth principles. But, the coefficient of dominant tree height was estimated negative and a new annual growth model except parameter of dominant tree height was prepared Then the dbh after n years could be estimated by following equation which consist of the dbh at the present time and the sum of annual radial growth for 11 years. In practice, the single tree dbh growth model could be applied to predicting the growth of individua.l tree for various forest situation or competition status. Key words : competition indices. annual radial growth, single tree dbh growth model. |
