Summary New indices of stand structure are developed, based on data from even-aged, homogenous stands of Pinus densiflora and uneven-aged mixed stands with various pine and oak species in the Kangwon Province, Korea. The usefulness of the indices is evaluated in comparision with the spatial variable diameter differentiation. The results of the analysis reveal that simple, position-independent indices are about as suitable for describing spatial structures as more sophisticated position-dependent ones, provided they have been assessed in small sample plots. |
